Life Support by Robert Whitlow

This engaging story about Alexia Lindale, an up-and-coming lawyer in South Carolina, captivated me almost immediately as I “watched” her navigate the complexities of her life and career. Alexia mostly represents women in their divorce cases, working out of a passion fueled by matters within her own heart. She now finds herself immersed in a case representing the unstable wife of Baxter Richardson, who fell off a cliff and is being kept alive on life support. Alexia faces an array of opinions and motives from Baxter’s wife and other family about whether he should remain on life support in hopes of recovery, or to be taken off and end his suffering. She soon learns she must discover the truth about what is right for Baxter…and we wonder when she will also learn the truth about what actually happened to cause Baxter’s “accident”.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense/drama. It was an easy read and highly entertaining. But beware…it leaves you wanting for the sequel! It was also good to see the Gospel presented in the book, but in such a unique way. The author told a story of an individual’s personal revelation of God rather than preaching the literal way of salvation. In this context, I think the choice the author made was appropriate and added to the ease of “experiencing” the character’s life with them.  I’m looking forward to part two!
